PSI, Ministry of Technology and Innovation conducts workshop

Industry Development Policy Study Center of FDRE Policy Study Institute (PSI) organized a half-day workshop in collaboration with the Ministry of Technology and Innovation on November 7, 2019 at Friendship International Hotel here in Addis Ababa. The joint research reports of the two organizations focused on the title “Development of Technology Transfer in Manufacturing Industry and its Challenges, Opportunities and Policy Options”.

The workshop was opened by a welcoming address of Ato Teferi Tiyaru, Vice Director General of PSI and Head of Economic Sector Policy Study Center of the institute.

It was learned from the workshop that a team of researchers drawn from the two agencies has been undertaking a deep and rigorous research on drawbacks of the existing policy strategy on technology transfer, and the impacts of technology transfer in manufacturing industries of developing countries like Ethiopia.

The findings of their research project were presented in two sessions: In the first session, Ato Mulugeta Wube, a senior expert at MTI, presented his paper on “Development of Technology Transfer in Manufacturing Industry and its Challenges, Opportunities and Policy Options”. In the second session of the workshop, Dr. Amare Matebu, a lead researcher at PSI, presented his paper on “Recommendations on Development of Technology Transfer in Manufacturing Industry.”

According to the research findings of the two presenters, Ethiopia’s policy on Technology transfer and its strategy of implementation has many drawbacks to achieve its intended purpose. As a result, the team of the policy researchers has framed a comprehensive policy guideline on this agenda as an input for the policy makers of the country.

Deep discussions were held through views and questions of the workshop participants drawn from various government agencies located in Addis Ababa.
