The Poverty and Social Welfare Study Center research team at the Policy Studies Institute participates in training on CGE modeling and GAMS software beginning February 28, 2023.
The training is part of the Poverty Reduction and Economic Growth (PREG) research project, which focuses primarily on whether growth in Ethiopia is pro-poor. It is expected that the research team will use CGE modeling to run various econometric analysis to answer the key research questions of the project.
CGE modeling and GAMS software are widely used by researchers in various fields, including economics, engineering, and social sciences. The GAMS software package provides powerful tools for conducting complex simulations and modeling exercises that allow researchers to explore a wide range of scenarios and analyze the impacts of various policies and interventions.
To help researchers develop their skills in using this software package a series of training programs have recently been launched at PSI. These programs are designed to give researchers hands-on experience using CGE modeling and GAMS software and help them develop the skills and knowledge they need to use these tools effectively in their research projects.
Dr. Selamawit Gegziabher, one of the participants in these programs, said that the training provides participants with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of CGE modeling and GAMS software and simulation techniques, as well as hands-on experience in applying these tools to analyze policy scenarios related to food security, poverty reduction, and economic development.
Dr. Selamawit added that the training will provide participants with the opportunity to learn about CGE modeling and optimization techniques, interact with experts in the field, and share their own research experiences.
Overall, these training programs help build the capacity of researchers to effectively use CGE modeling and GAMS software in their research projects and contribute to the development of more robust and evidence-based policy solutions.
