A day-long training on Zotero Reference Management Software was held on March 10, 2023, at the Policy Studies Institute premises for PSI researchers. The training was organized by the Center for Research Development and Data Management Centre of PSI.
The trainer, Dr. Balew Demissie, presented six modules of the software during the training. Dr. Balew said Zotero is a powerful and user-friendly reference management software that can help researchers collect, organize, and cite their sources more efficiently. With a little training and practice, participants can become Zotero experts in no time. He added that the goal of this training is to provide basic knowledge about managing documents, references, in-text citations, and bibliographies.
In the highly digitized world of academic research, Zotero has become an indispensable tool for researchers to manage and organize their references with ease. To help researchers make the most of this powerful tool, a Zotero training session was recently held at a prestigious Institute, attracting a large number of researchers.
The training covered a range of topics, including the basics of Zotero, setting up accounts, installing and configuring the application, and importing and organizing references. It also covered advanced features such as working with PDF files, collaborating with colleagues, and creating bibliographies. The six modules Dr. Balew covered were Installing and Setting Up Zotero, Adding Objects to Zotero, Organizing the Zotero Library, Citing Sources in Zotero, Collaborating and Sharing in Zotero, and Advanced Zotero Features.
Participants were enthusiastic about the session and appreciated the interactive format of the training with a mix of theoretical and hands-on exercises. They felt that the training provided them with a valuable opportunity to improve their research skills, and many expressed a desire for more such sessions in the future. The course instructor expressed satisfaction with the participation and engagement in the training and reaffirmed his commitment to providing researchers with the latest tools and methodologies
Dr. Balew said that the popular literature management software Zotero has announced a new training component for its users. The new training feature is designed to help users master the software's features and provide them with tips and tricks for using the platform more efficiently. He added that Zotero, which is widely used by researchers and academics, also offers dedicated training modules. These modules help users better navigate the often complex demands of scientific research. He said adding this training component is part of a larger effort by Zotero.
The participants also said that Zotero training can help them become more efficient and effective in their research, saving time and effort while ensuring that their work is properly documented and cited.
