The Staff of Policy Studies Institute celebrated International Women's Day (March 8) for the 112th time internationally with the theme "Digit ALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality" and in Ethiopia for the 47th time with the theme "I am my sister's keeper." on March 13, 2023, at the premises of PSI.
H.E. Professor Beyene Petros, Director General of PSI, said that on March 8, which is historically recognized as International Women's Day, celebrations and events were held around the world to honor and recognize the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Professor Beyene added that the March 8 celebrations help honor the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world. It also serves as a call to action to promote gender equality and women's rights. The celebrations on this day can help raise awareness of women's issues and inspire people to work for women's equality and justice.
Professor Beyene emphasized that this day is an opportunity to amplify women's voices and recognize their contributions in various fields. Moreover, the observance of this day can promote unity and solidarity among women from different cultures and backgrounds. The day helped highlight the ongoing struggle for gender equality and representation in all walks of life.
At PSI, the Gender and Women's Directorate hosted a panel discussion to raise awareness of issues such as reproductive rights, gender-based violence, and discrimination in the workplace, and to demand accountability from governments and businesses for their inaction in these areas.
Participants in the day also said the annual March 8 celebration helps highlight the outstanding contributions of women in a variety of fields, from science and technology to the arts and politics.
