The  Federalism, Diversity Management and Rule of Law Studies at the Policy Studies Institute(PSI) conducted an internal validation workshop entitled “Understanding Conflicts in Ethiopia from 2015-2021” on January 26, 2024 in the premises of the PSI main meeting  hall.

 

The Policy Studies Institute celebrated various international days such as Children’s Day, Violence against Women and Girls, HIV Day and the Day of Persons with Disabilities at the PSI premises on December 19, 2023.

The event was attended by PSI top management and staff as well as invited guests from the Ethiopian Children's Amba and the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs.

Policy Studies Institute (PSI) and the Ethiopian Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MOTRI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on common issues of national importance. The signing ceremony, held on December 15, 2023, at the Elilly Hotel in Addis Ababa, marked a significant milestone in fostering a strong partnership between these two influential entities.

A delegation from Ambo University visited PSI on December 13, 2023. The delegation included Dr. Belay Yadeta, the Dean of the School of Natural Resources, Dr. Achalu Chimdi, the Deputy Director of Research and Community Service, and Dr. Gudeta Nepir, the Coordinator of the School of Graduate Studies.

H.E. Prof. Beyene Petros, the Director General of PSI, warmly welcomed the delegation. Prof. Beyene gave them an overview of PSI, including its vision, mission, values, organizational chart, research departments and functions, and partnership activities.

The Policy Studies Institute (PSI) and Addis Ababa University (AAU) have presented a proposal on the new national school leaving exam administration at the Premises of PSI on November 30,2023. The central thesis of the two giant institutions’ proposal is the recent exam administration exposes alarming decline in Ethiopia’s student performance.

A workshop entitled “Investigating Barriers to Access and Usage of Housing Finance in Ethiopia" was held at the Harmony Hotel on November 28, 2023. The aim of the workshop was to bring together various partners, including government organizations, leading financial institutions, UN-Habitat, universities, microfinance institutions, real estate and savings groups and cooperatives.

The Mekedonia Humanitarian Association is a testimony to the highest form of humanitarianism in Ethiopia. On November 29, 2023, the Policy Studies Institute (PSI) staff had the privilege of visiting the Mekedonia Humanitarian Association (MHA). Their goal was to help the people who have found inhabitant in the center with essential hygiene items and clothing. MHA is located in the Lemi Kura Subcity in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,in the immediate vicinity of Hayat Square. The staff learned that MHA serves as a shelter for adults, the elderly and people with various physical disabilities and mental illnesses.

In collaboration with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) and School of Public Health of the Addis Ababa University (AAU), Policy Studies Institute (PSI)  organized a workshop and presented key preliminary findings of the studies undertaken under the Catalysing Change for Healthy and Sustainable Food System initiative on the 16th and 17th of November 2023 at Jupiter International Hotel in Addis Ababa.

FDRE Policy Studies Institute and URAXESS Africa hosted a Virtual Training Workshop on Grant Writing on November 9, 2023.  About 130 participants of different countries, including Ethiopia, have participated in the webinar. Government and non-government organizations, academic and research institutions, actors from the private sector,  and individual researchers have attended the two and half an hour event. The event was a great opportunity to promote PSI and its mission by forging a partnership to solve research challenges.  

FDRE Policy Studies Institute organized a three days impact evaluation training workshop in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 31 October to 3 November 2023. The aim of the workshop was to improve the research capacities of junior researchers, postgraduates and policy makers in the field of impact evaluation of development programs and policy interventions.

 

A four-day training workshop on impact evaluation begins at PSI on November 31,2023. The workshop, which will be held from Oct. 31-Nov. 3, 2023 aims to enhance the research capacity of early career researchers, postgraduates and policymakers in assessing the impact of development programs and policies.

A workshop titled "Economic Value of Urban Ecosystem Services in Addis Ababa" was held at the Capital Hotel and Spa on October 12, 2023. The workshop brought together officials, experts, and academics from various Federal and Addis Ababa City Administration Institutions. The event was organized by the policy Studies Institute (PSI) in collaboration with the Addis Ababa City Administration Environment Protection Authority.

A workshop focused on building resilience to climate change was successfully held on October 12, 2023 at the PSI Main Meeting Hall. The workshop, organized by the University of Copenhagen Development Economics Research Group (UCPH-DERG) and the Policy Studies Institute (PSI), aimed to launch the 2nd Household Survey Report and discuss key findings related to climate change resilience in Ethiopia. Dr. Tadesse Kuma provided an overview of the workshop's objectives and agenda.
