The Academic Networking Breakfast was held on March 9, 2023, in the first-floor conference room of PSI. The International Growth Center, in partnership with the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), hosted a networking breakfast at PSI. This is the second such event, as the first was held in late 2022. The theme of the breakfast was migration. The purpose of the networking breakfast is to provide opportunities for researchers to participate in workshops, training programs, and other professional development opportunities. These experiences can help researchers expand their knowledge and expertise, which can lead to better career opportunities.

Professor Dan Banik, his postdoctoral fellow in social psychology - Dr. Johanna S. Adolfssyn - and two other professors from Addis Ababa University - Dr. Yeshitla Wondemeneh and Dr. Aklilu Amsalu - visited PSI, on March 3, 2023, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., to discuss collaboration with PSI.

The Industrial Development Policy Research Center at the Policy Studies Institute (PSI) hosted a two-day international conference on Jobs for Development at the Capital Hotel, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in the presence of renowned researchers, Ethiopian government officials, staff of international organizations, and policymakers. The researchers from different countries and institutions presented their research findings at the Skyline Lounge at the Capital Hotel on February 22-23, 2023.

The Agricultural and Rural Development Study Center of the Policy Studies Institute released the preliminary findings of the study "Situational Analysis of Urban Agriculture in Ethiopia" on February 21, 2023, at the premises of PSI. The research team led by Dr. Ashagrie Gibtan and his colleagues Dr. Wondwosen Abera and Mr.Mekuria Delelegn(Ph.D. fellow), presented the different sections of the study.

A powerful earthquake and a series of strong tremors and aftershocks devastated the Republic of Turkey and northwestern Syria on February 6, 2023. The earthquake caused significant damage and claimed many lives. According to reports, thousands of people were killed and many more injured in the quake. Many buildings, including residential and commercial buildings, were severely damaged, and some even collapsed completely. The quake also triggered landslides, further complicating rescue and recovery efforts.

QGIS Seminar at PSI

A specialist in GIS and satellite data, Dr. Peter from the University of Copenhagen, held a half-day seminar on GIS and satellite data with QGIS for researchers from PSI on January 31, 2023, from 1:30 to 5:30 PM at PSI Main Meeting Hall. The main topics of the seminar were the basics of GIS and map making.

The German Development Cooperation intends to support good governance in Ethiopia through a Technical Cooperation project. The project focuses on supporting 1) democratic elections, 2) human rights, 3) national dialog and 4) fair administration (especially the new procedural law).
